project #2

i'm very excited to have completed my second project! i'm so proud my new year's resolution hasn't fizzled out by february like it almost always does. i was close to giving up after my last project but i decided to tangle with my sewing machine again.

grant finally has a twin bed. i wanted to spice up his room to make it more enticing for him to actually stay in his bed. as i looked for sheets and a comforter, i again realized how picky i am - well, it would be easier to be less picky if money were no object, but let's be realistic. it was impossible to find cute boy bedding that is 100% cotton for a reasonable price.

so i decided to forget the whole bedding ensemble and just make him some cute pillowcases. i wanted him to be involved so we had a fun fabric outing where i let him pick out what he liked. of course he picked out thomas the train and dump trucks.

this morning for some reason he was able to play by himself in my room as i sewed. it was amazing because usually if i'm not paying attention to him, he gets into major trouble (such as eating glue sticks, beating the cat with his toy hammer, things like this.) he was getting so excited for me to be finished, and i realized my excitement was rubbing off on him (made me realize i need to re-think my attitude on days he's misbehaving or acting crabby).

so here they are! two pillow cases for grant. i'm so excited. my sewing went so smoothly compared to the fight i had last time. maybe my sewing machine and i can finally be friends...

p.s. i didn't make this mickey mouse pillowcase. it was mine when i was a kid and grant's obsessed with it. he wanted it in the picture too.

and here's my handy helper...
