project #1

one of my new year's resolutions is to take president uchtdorf's counsel and create something. i'm always complaining to jason that stores don't sell the curtains, bedding and clothes that i picture in my head, and he always says "why don't you make them?" ha-ha. so, my first project was to sew some curtains.

here's the machine i had to conquer. my wonderful mom bought this for me 10 years ago. it's a little daunting, don't you think? but i was dermined this time (compared to my last feeble attempts where i gave up after 20 min of wondering which way was up). i got out the manual, and 3 hours later i FINALLY learned all the parts and got the bobbin wound and the thread in place. whew, my back hurt.

i found the material about a month ago, so the next day i was lucky enough to sew for 3 hours while grant napped. it was surprisingly easier then i thought and even fun. last night, jason (with grant's help) hung the rod and viola! new curtains! i am so excited, i can't even tell you. the best part is when grant woke up today, smiled, and said "look, mama's new curtains!"

the anniversary

monday is the anniversary of Jason cutting off the tip of his finger on his table saw. for those of you who remember, it was quite the traumatizing experience. the past 12 months, i've been telling jason we need a new saw if he's going to keep woodworking - one called the sawstop which will not allow your finger to be cut off. it's expensive, but the technology is amazing, and the peace of mind it would bring me would be priceless. this entire time he's been telling me we don't need it, he'll just "be more careful." well, yesterday, i'm folding laudry, listening to music, while jason and grant are outside. i'm enjoying some toddler-free time when grant runs into the room saying "daddy owie! daddy owie!" and right behind him is jason holding his hands, COVERED in blood. my heart practically stops and i almost faint. turns out, jason cut deeply into the index finger of his good hand while pruning the large bushes in our front yard. an activity i thought was danger-free. apparently not.

needless to say, i'm convinced more than ever we need that saw. that little flicker of doubt i had was completely snuffed out yesterday while bandaging jason up.

p.s. today all grant can talk about is "daddy bleeding." great.

Things we did over Christmas Break

enjoyed the cool weather (before christmas)

made lots of fires

saw christmas lights (these homes ranged from 30,000 to 50,000 lights - some were set to music - very cool)

made lots of good things to eat

met santa and told him what we wanted (trains and dinosaurs)

rode our bike

watched a christmas story (yes i know this is really jason playing "seinfeld scene it" on christmas day but in the picture where we're really watching the movie jason is not appropriately dressed)

put together grant's shopping cart on christmas eve (he really wanted a baby stroller but jason said it was too girly)

then came christmas. grant wanted to open presents every day and i caught him trying many times. he was thrilled to finally open his presents.

christmas day (thank you for everyone who made our christmas so fun!)

i know it looks like jason got a guitar for christmas, but really i did. :) i hope you all had a very merry christmas!
