Day 4, part 1

On day four we ventured out to the south east side of the island. First stop on our way to the best beaches I've seen in Hawaii, we hit one of the popular surfing/boogie boarding sites: Sandy Beach, also the # 1 beach with the most emergency calls per year. The natural sandy bar creates such large, surf pounding waves that many people under estimate the power of the water and end up breaking many bones and being thrashed about. You'll notice in the background of the first picture, a bus. This is a famous tourist stop--the toilet bowl. Back in 1995 it was closed to people from being to walk out there because some people used to sit on top of it and get thrown. Well, didn't take long before a few people died from being thrown much farther than they had expected. Talk about a deadly enema!
