We were excited to get away for Memorial Day. We went camping at Guadalupe
River State Park. Thankfully we reserved a spot months ago, since you haven't
been able to make reservations for a few months, but those that already had them
could use them. There was barely anyone there, which was so nice!
Especially since we were trying to avoid other people!
We camped, hiked, made fires, swam in the river, jumped off rocks, went tubing
down some small falls, metal detected for treasure, and over all had a great time.
We love being outside and having fun together and it was a great long weekend,
especially to get away from all the craziness in the world right now.
We made some awesome memories! We're so grateful for our family
and the adventures we get to have together.
This girl is just not scared of bugs. She loves them. There were so
many bugs there and she just wanted to hold them all.
This camp was covered in roly-poly's every morning. Hundreds
of them. Claire loves those, so she was in heaven picking them all
up and collecting them and laughing when they'd crawl on her
"they tickle me!"
Hiking!
Flowers is another thing she loves. She'll even yell at you to stop the car so
she can pick the flowers she sees out her window!
There were tons of fossils everywhere. It was fun to try and find them.
Oh and climbing. She climbs EVERYTHING. I can't tell you how many times we
had to pull her out of trees and tell her to keep on walking.
Dinner!
The kids are so self entertained camping. Fires, bugs, trees, rocks, sticks, you name it.
So excited to go "slimming!"
Chase and Claire discovered frogs were at the edges of the river, so they spent
hours catching and releasing them. Claire would scream with excitement when
she got to hold one.
Every rock the boys would test the waters to find one to jump off of...unfortunately the
river is pretty shallow and there's not a lot of deep spots. But we finally found one!
There were tiny rapids that were fun to tube down. Claire did them with her body since
she's small and her floaty kept her bobbing up and down. She would laugh so much!
The only down side was a storm that came up the last night.
We spent about 30 min of a tornado watch in the camp bathroom to be safe.
And then packed up in 3 inches of water on the ground the next morning.
The kids wont forget the night of lightening and thunder that sounded SO close.
But memories were made! Character was built! Lots of laughs too.
We had a great time. We are so grateful we were able to go and be safe and have fun.
We hope you enjoyed your weekend and are staying healthy and safe.
