the beach

we were in galveston this weekend - and it was AWESOME. one of the best family days we've had in a while. we're totally beach people and a day at the beach is a perfect day for us. the water was so clear. i was out in waist deep water and i could see my feet! it was amazing. (i was nervous though - grant told me earlier in the week a shark was going to eat me at the beach.)

so here is jason setting up our shade contraption. we do have a quick shade canopy, but it's a pain to drive down with it rigged in the interior of our car (it doesn't fit in the trunk). so jason makes one out of posts and a tarp. it's hilarious to watch people walk by - every single time one person in the group says "hey look over there" and they all proceed to look our direction, at the same time trying to look like they aren't looking. it cracks me up. some people come up to us and say "hey what an awesome idea! i'm going to do that next time."

grant LOVES sand, so it's a given he'll be happy in the sand for hours. he loves to swim too, but when we first got there, he was NOT going in the water. he was screaming bloody murder. i couldn't figure out what was wrong - he LOVES swimming in both our backyard and the neighborhood pool. i think his last memory of the beach was in CA last august when he got smacked hard by a cold wave.

apparently you should be careful for what you wish for. jason built sand castles with him getting him closer and closer to the water, and before you know it, he was LOVING it.

from then on out, he was in the water the ENTIRE time. he layed in the water i swear for 5 straight hours. we would try to get him out because we were freezing, but he wouldn't come out.

the water was so clear. we did see some jelly fish but didn't hear of anyone being stung. jason caught one! the picture is blurry because i'm taking it through a waterproof carrier and it's super hard to tell what you're taking a picture of.

we had an awesome day. i LOVE this new life vest. grant does too. it's amazing.

what a happy kid!

(he's already said 4 times this morning - can i go beach today? more? more beach please!)
