Puerto Rico

Second adventure of the summer, and the biggest, was our trip to Puerto Rico. Jason and I went with my parents 25 years ago, and we wanted to do something special before Grant leaves home (sob!) so we decided to take the kids and go back. And it was amazing! The trip got off to a rough start, due to weather and a crew shortage, we spent 18 hours in the Houston airport trying to get there. 😳 We were sooo tired, but we finally arrived at 4 am the next day! Whew!

After that, we had a fabulous time. Beautiful beaches, great snorkeling, AMAZING food, and such nice and hospitable people. Claire showed off her diving skills by diving really far down, probably 15-16 feet to collect and see things on the bottom! She is amazing! The kids all got along so well and we had such a nice time. It was so good to get away from the business and craziness of life. It just might be our new favorite place.

We spent each morning snorkeling for a couple of hours while the visibility was good. Jason got a new underwater camera and it takes amazing pictures! We saw so many cool things, elk horn coral, so many schools of fish, so many tropical fish, sharks, turtles, rays, eels, jellyfish, and octopus. The variety was amazing. After that we'd eat lunch and then explore the beach, build sand castles, try to crack open a coconut, see what creatures we could find in the rocks, play with hermit crabs, and just hang out. Claire and Jason loved to snorkel right at the shore for sea glass, and we came home with quite a bit! The food was also just so great. Lots of local places that cooked right there for you fresh food. We were really impressed.

The highlight was swimming at 10 pm in the bioluminescent bay! We had such an incredible time and made some great family memories. We are so grateful for the opportunity we have to travel and see new places and build relationships. Summer is my favorite! 💕
